Spring Festival 2008

It sucked .. big time!!! I wanted to see 3 artists, namely Juan Atkins, the Bug and Luke Vibert. I allready knew that the Bug had a double booking for this day so there were only 2 left. We arrived thursdays at 2.30am in the Postgarage in Graz and we still had to pay the full 25€ entry just to find out minutes later that Juan Atkins won’t play. They didn’t even bother to put a sign in front of the door announcing it. Same shit happened saturdays. We asked one of the Spring guys when Luke Vibert is going to play and he told us that he is allready in Graz and that he will play in a few hours. So we stayed in the Postgarage waiting. Most of the sound was really crappy, so it was a kind of torture to do so. At 6am i met Stefan Auer (the guy behind Zeiger and the organiser of this festival) and i asked him about Luke and he told me that he is sick. Those bastardz! Luckily, i had a really nice time with my girlfriend and some old friends from Graz, otherwise i would be really, REALLY pissed.

Big up to the local DJ’s from Graz though. They organised a counter party where you had to pay 3€ for the whole day. Would have been the better choice!

Maybe we will go to the Wilsonic festival in Bratislava .. sounds promising as well ;-)

Jamie Lidell / Joakim

They will play at the Posthof in Linz. I will play warmup together with fino from 10-12pm. And .. i updated my upcoming shows page .. me lazy bastard :)

Krochen!!

I was wondering the last year or so about a new trend in vienna. I saw a lot of kids dressing up in golden sneakers, wearing neon-colored caps and palestinian scarfs running around in vienna .. there is now a official name for them called “Krocha”. Wikipedia makes it official now ;)

I started surfing around a bit and found websites like this one where they present their style of dancing called jump-style. Next thing i found was a dance style called shuffle .. and it fuckin’ rocks.

The funny thing about it is that i get so nostalgic when i watch this kid jumping .. takes me way back to my old rave times. We didn’t have the funky sounding names for it (like melbourne shuffle, jump-style ..) but we had better XTC :D

Seems i’m getting old … baaam euda!!

Yummi, ear fodder!

My girlfriend Vania is really into electro music and she is also a fantastic electro djane. She runs a radio show on frequencyradio.org every two weeks (maybe in the future every week) on thursday from 10 to 12 pm cet. She plays different styles of electronic music (all of it broken beats, because otherwise the electro-police will arrest her) and she sometimes invites guest to play there as well (me f.ex. :). The radio is focussed on electronic music and they broadcast live every day starting at 8 pm cet (check out the program).

Another internet radio i really adore is globalfunkradio.com. As the name suggests it’s all about da funk, so they play soul, funk and jazz mixes during the day (not live though). Their live program starts around 7 pm cet consisting of oldschool hiphop, electro breaks but also more experimental stuff.

And, in case you didn’t know it, go check out play.fm. They broadcast live but they also have a huge archive of electronic music (Vania has a show there as well btw).

Acid mix by Luke Vibert

Luke Vibert is at the moment one of the most interesting artist to me as far as electronic music is concerned. I just love his last two albums so i was really happy to find this dj-set from him. A nice collection of old and new acid house/breaks tracks with some of my favourites in it. Check it out!

Funkeee mix by Mick Boogie

Fino sent me yesterday this nice hip-hop mix by Mick Boogie. So enjoy Busta Rhymes and J Dilla on Rappcats.com!

Jazz .. i love it when you say jazz

a nice collection of online jazz radio stations.
