My real name is Sascha Sadat-Guscheh and i live in Vienna(Austria). I was born in Teheran, but after some interstations i grew up in Linz. Since i can remember, i used to be interested in music and music making. My parents encouraged this, they sponsored a guitar teacher and bought me my first guitar. Hip-hop was my first big love so i started DJing back in ‘95 in my hometome playing at small local parties. |
| Linz is not really that big, the different scenes in that time were not really seperated and so it was just a matter of time for me to discover other parts of electronic music. I got involved into the whole techno thing and going to rave parties, consequently i started playing at (organising) techno parties. In that time the first MACHINES were bought and the first homegrown trax emerged from the depths of an Atari 1040ST, a Dynacord sampler and Yamaha DX7. At my first “live-gig” i met Gebi (CARGOBLAST/EMU), now a dear friend of mine, who is a crazy techno hippy from Linz with a weakness for old analog music machines. I blame him, that i also fell in love with old analog equipement, on which i now spend big parts of my money. Together with other local artists (eleven, ddkern ..) we held A LOT of jam sessions resulting in hunderts(!) of mini-discs and tapes full of electronic noise.
In 1998 i moved to Graz to study sound engineering at the local university. In this year, i met Bernd (DJ Alive) at a party in Graz where he was spinning. It was Bernd, who actually introduced me to electro and drum’n'bass. He and some mates used to organise parties in Vienna called “Alien Bass” so he had tons of old jungle and drum’n'bass records to share. After knowing each other for a couple of days, we decided to merge our studios and SYNCMODE was born. Our first pieces were experimental electro and weird techno trax, inspired by the sexy nipples of a korg synth cascade (MS 10, MS 20, MS 50 & SQ10), a 808 and a MPC2000. At that time my old friends back in Linz (Andi aka NDL, Felix aka Fino, Mucki aka Darkstar and Alex aka Kemoka) formed a drum’n'bass crew called Morphed and i was happy to join them. I started buying drum’n'bass records and played as DJ Siad drum’n'bass sets in the first place, but also oldschool electro and minimal sets. After a short intermezzo in Vienna (in 2000) Bernd and i moved to the netherlands to work at a IT startup company, but allready after a year we were back in Vienna and moved with our studio equipment to a flat where we are still living. Since then, we run our small label Syncmode Records and we released two records containing tracks from our time in the netherlands but also some older stuff from Graz and Vienna. Together with Dave (Phish) i started a live-mashup project called Breakin’ Stevens which got somehow “successfull” resulting in two releases on Ze French Bootleg label. In 2004 i commenced studying at the university of applied arts in Vienna namely a branch called digital art. Beside that i constantly worked as a programmer in different companies to make my living because electronic music is not really that lucrative. At the moment i try to finish my studies but i’m always open to new opportunities and i try to keep my eyes open! |
